The Final Countdown Begins (t-minus 10 days)

Yup that's right- only 10 days left in Denmark. By the time I get done writing this post, it
Nicaragua, so soon :)
will probably (technically speaking) be 9 days...and by the time I post it, it will be 9 days. I fly home on May 18th, a direct flight into Newark. Then, I have about 5 days at home, before heading to Bucknell to go on Bucknell in Nicaragua, a 3 week service-learning course on grassroots development, in you guessed where- Nicaragua! I can't wait, but it will definitely be a whirlwind of goodbyes, packing, hellos, packing, traveling, and a few things in between.

Life in Denmark is good, though. Like I've said, it's finally springtime here- figures it would get nice right when we leave! It was expected, though, so I guess that's some consolation...maybe. We actually did get a couple cold days during the week (including the day it was freezing and rainy, with a few SNOWFLAKES...the same day I sat and watched 120 minutes of soccer because I was hurt), so it was great timing for Søs and Henrik to travel to Madrid for a little anniversary vacation. It was lonely without them, but lucky for Mads, Milo, and I, Pernille came to stay for the week, which was very fun! I even got to watch her handball game- such a crazy sport! She was great though (A+!); things to note include excellent chicken, finding the church to pick me up from the Bornholm trip, and getting me to the ferry for the Bornholm trip...which reminds me, I haven't told anyone about my biking adventures in Bornholm...I'll never be caught up! I'll work on that...later :)

My host mom, the Queen!
It was an absolutely beautiful weekend though. Friday night
my host cousin, rapper/singer extraordinaire
Pernille, Kristina, and I went over to Lølle's for dinner (Søs's sister), and we had a very hyggeligt evening with family and friends. The food was delicious, and the singing, dancing, and yoga/flexibility performances were stellar. Then, Søs and Henrik got home from their trip to Madrid
there's Pernille, dancer on the left!
(HAPPY 25TH ANNIVERSARY!!!) this morning, after a HECTIC and
there's Mads, second from the left!
DELAYED return trip. I got to go watch Op-side Down, their church's performance group, complete with song, dance, acting, interactive games, costumes, and a wonderful cast of performers (including my host mom, brother, sister, and a multitude of extended family). It was really awesome, and I couldn't help but smile, laugh, sing, and dance along with them- the energy was contagious :)

After grocery shopping with Søs, we got back to her and Henrik's close friends in the backyard, with champagne, strawberries, chocolates, and crackers as a small, surprise anniversary celebration. It was really cute, and of course, so hyggeligt :) The rest of the day was pretty low key, which leaves me here, in bed, at 11:30, blogging instead of working on my paper. Not surprising.

So let's see...what else? Well, I've had 6 soccer games- I played in 4, was hurt for 1 (womp, Achilles), and couldn't make the one today. I'm loving it though, there are some really cool girls on my team, and it's a lot of fun. We've played some VERY physical teams, like the kind of physical where you get a forearm in your back when you're about to receive the ball, or a hand on your jersey/shorts.

Unfortunately, since our first 3 wins, we haven't won a game that I've been at- which is a bummer on it's own, of course, but I'm disappointed because I finally learned the Danish victory chant! After a win, you all stand in a circle (we jump in a circle as well) and yell- "Hver war de der vandt i dag? De war dem fra (insert club here- ØKF)! Hey, Hey, Hey!", meaning "Who was it who won today? It was them from (club)! hey, hey, hey!"...or something like that. Of course, none of the Americans had ANY idea what was being said; we just jumped and smiled. Lucky for me, Søs and Pernille came to the last game we won, and Søs informed me afterwards what was actually said- sweet deal. So, hopefully we win this Friday- I think it's our last game before going home!

Aside from that, we finished classes last week. Meaning, 2 papers, 1 exam, and 10 days
Denmark- so much to do, so little time!
stand between me and my flight home. Oh yeah, and a full week of no classes! I'm sure it will end up being a busy week though- there is a lot left for me to see! We're going to Bakken, a little amusement park/garden/woodsy area outside Copenhagen (according to their website,  the oldest amusement park in the world? cool.) on Saturday probably, so that will be fun! Tuesday I'm exploring the Botanical Gardens, Fredericksberg, and various streets of Copenhagen with Emma. Other things to do include climbing the spiral tower church (pictures to come!), going to the Louisiana Art Museum (Mrs. Walsh would kill me if I didn't!!), and going to the National Museum (such a fail that I haven't yet- it's free!). And, of course, going to our next door, across the sea neighbor country, Sweden- Kelly, Emma, and I have a Malmö trip planned for Monday! Clearly, I will be very busy in these next 10 days...and I don't even want to THINK about packing!!!!!!
